First Gyalshing District Employees Badminton Tournament – 2025 Successfully Organised at Pelling
Gyalshing, April 2 (IPR): As part of the ongoing celebrations marking 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative, First Gyalshing District Employees Badminton Tournament – 2025 was successfully organised by District Administration in collaboration with Pandim Suttlers at Badminton Hall, Pelling.
The main event witnessed the presence of Mr Tenzing Dorjee Denzongpa District Collector Gyalshing, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Ms Nikjay Lhamu Bhutia Joint Director(Sports), along with other dignitaries and senior officials. The tournament saw enthusiastic participation, featuring a total of 68 teams competing across eight categories.
At the outset, the inaugural ceremony was graced by Mr Tshering Sherpa Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing, as the Chief Guest. He actively participated in the tournament, showcasing remarkable enthusiasm and sportsmanship, inspiring fellow participants with his dedication on the court. His words of encouragement and support set an inspiring tone for the tournament, motivating participants to put forth their best performances.
Among the notable attendees were Mr Suresh Rai ADC Gyalshing, Mr Tshering W Bhutia ASP Gyalshing -cum- President (Pandim Suttlers), Mr Sandesh Subba SDM Gyalshing , Mr Pulkut ,IAS, SDM (HQ), Mr Tshitij Saxena,IFS, DFO(T), Mr Kessang D Bhutia SDPO Gyalshing and Mr Pem Dorjee Bhutia DPO(GDZP).
Following an exciting series of matches, winners emerged in the following categories:
Women’s Doubles: Ms Karma Yangki(Education) and Ms Mamta Bharati(PTC, Kyongsa)
Mixed Doubles: Ms Karma Yangki(Education) & Phurba Sherpa(Power)
Men’s Singles: Mr Bidhur Sharma(Cooperative Department)
Men’s Doubles: Mr Sajan Limboo(Pay& Accounts) and Khushang Sherpa(Fisheries)
35+ Men’s Doubles: Mr Phurba Sherpa(Power) and Mr Binod Rai(Power)
40+ Men’s Doubles: Mr Moses Bhutia(Education) and Dhanraj Limboo (DIET, Gyalshing)
45+ Men’s Doubles: Mr Moses Bhutia(Education) and Mr Suren Tamling(Education)
50+ Men’s Doubles: Mr Nirmal C Chettri(Education) & Mr Dinesh Pradhan(Education)
The tournament served as a significant platform to promote physical fitness, team spirit and engagement among government employees. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates of appreciation to the winners in recognition of their outstanding performances.
The District Collector commended the participants for their dedication and emphasized the importance of sports in fostering unity, well-being and a healthy work-life balance.
